View From Flat, East Launceston, 2024 | oil and beeswax on canvas, 81 x 81 cm
"...it is because our memories of former dwellings are relived as day-dreams that these places of the past remain in us for all time." - Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
Our Launceston rented flat was one of six dwellings within what was once, a single weatherboard mansion. This flat still infiltrates my dreams many years after moving back to Western Australia. This is an intimate view known only to those who have lived and day-dreamed under its grand old roof.
