A typical post-war fibro cottage needed an update. Asbestos was removed from the entire home. The house was re-stumped and re-wired. Cladding was replaced, insulation was installed throughout and roof tiles were replaced with steel sheeting.
A bathroom sitting between the kitchen and bedroom was removed to create a light filled open plan kitchen/dining and living space. The original lounge room became a master bedroom with an ensuite - created by reclaiming a portion of the rear sleepout. The only addition to the house was a 3rd guest bedroom/study which opens onto a rear courtyard with privacy screens designed to shield out the rear strata home. The old rear laundry was stripped to create a stylish new laundry/bathroom.
There is a relaxed casualness to this home. Though modest in scale, there is an ease of transgression between inside and outside giving an illusion of a much larger home. The landscape design was also a major part of this project.
