After completing a brick building on a corner block in South Fremantle, it was suggested to the owner by his builder, that he should also utilise the space above the building’s rear car parking area.
A residence was commissioned to compliment the brick building without mimicking what the previous designer had created. Spotted Gum was selected as cladding, finished with black, custom-made, water repellent liquid wax/stain. The colour is striking against green climbing plants that cascade down the building’s facade from integrated planter boxes. Recycled Jarrah balustrade, decking and soffit linings add warmth and contrast against the black cladding. All rooms are generously proportioned with the bedroom and living spaces opening onto separate north facing, covered terraces.
With an open brief, both inside and out, Jane has designed a building with great economy and style.
